Michelangelo a.k.a. X is an Afro-Latin American Artist born and raised in Southern California. He is of Peruvian, Puerto Rican, and Spanish descent.

Growing up he was heavily influenced by Micheal Jackson, Elvis Presley, Madonna and Freddie Mercury. His passion and love for music led him to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Artist Development and Music Business.

As Michelangelo makes his way back into the music scene after a long hiatus of creative directing films and music videos, we take a look into his life.

Hi, Michelangelo & Welcome To Medium!

How did the journey with music start?

When I was 5, I was completely mesmerized by 4 Non-Blondes’ “What’s Up” (Dance Mix Version) in which I carried a recorded cassette of the song everywhere I went. I believe that’s the first time I have ever sung along to a song other than a nursery rhyme or cartoon theme song.

What was the trigger point made you decide to get into music?

This may sound a bit goofy but it was actually the character Powerline in the movie “A Goofy Movie” that captivated my attention and the means to actually want to be a musical entertainer. Michael Jackson, Prince, Elvis and Freddie Mercury were also one of those influences.

What inspires you most?

I’m inspired by the beauty in many things...

Right now I’m inspired by what’s going on in this crazy world. I truly believe our planet could exist in peaceful harmony but it’s up to some of us who have listeners to actually use our platform and voice to speak and educate people.

Which is your most favorite music instrument and why?

Although I’ve played the Baritone through my years in middle school and high school. There’s something very smooth and sexy about a saxophone, piano, and acoustic guitar.

If you were not a musician what would you have been?

Dead.

What are your suggestions for the newcomers?

Stay in your lane. Just kidding.

I’d say Just stay authentic, stay creative, stay humble and stay out of my way. ;) Haha

What would be your dream collaboration?

This one is very hard because I do see myself working with so many legends that I’d love to work with but my dream collaboration for me is gathering a group of some of the top artists in the world and creating a “We Are The World” part 2. I think we need another one of those to wake and shake some people's minds again.

Have you ever gone through writer's block? How did you overcome it?

Many times. I think of so many ideas all at once most of the time that it can be a bit overwhelming for me sometimes haha.

What I usually do is write them down… meditate and go back to them later.

Thank you for inspiring us, Michelangelo! We can wait to see more from you!
