Tell us a little bit about Moonwalk, what is it like? When will it be released?

After releasing “The Introduction” I wanted to follow up with something that mirrored the same style but was cleaner and more musically thought out. Moonwalk still has that ethereal feeling but the track just better exemplifies my musical style, it’s just more intricate and heartfelt. I think it’s my best work so far and I’m super excited to release it.

What instruments did you use?

I set the scene with a space piano, composing a short melody that quickly dies as the ethereal breathing voices pick up to introduce the heavy chorus of the song. What I think is so interesting about this project is that every instrument gains ground throughout the song, eventually revealing during the climax. I typically structure my songs to peak twice, the first way less intense than the second, this keeps the listener engaged.

The track features fine-tuned space synths, multiple strings, a piano, a deep baseline & some minimal percussion. I created it in my bedroom studio in East Hampton, NY.

What was your creative process like?

I do not know music theory. I just play and play until something catches my ear. I’ll listen to scores, analyze them, and notice what I like/what I don’t like but everything just comes out naturally when I’m creating.

Unlike my last release, I used social media to broadcast my creative process. I’m trying to get more comfortable on Instagram live so I went live for a couple of mixing sessions.

Lastly, How do you feel the Internet has helped you grow as an independent artist?

There are so many ways now to reach your audience. Submithub allows artists to network and pitch to playlist curators, Instagram’s direct messages are such a helpful tool to reach out to anybody you want. I find that a simple interaction goes a long way. Even with social promotion, the key is to make your music the best it can be. If you are deciding on a $50 master or $200 master, you go for the 200. It can be the difference between 1000 people seeing your stuff and 100000 people seeing it. By making your content the best it can be, you are putting the best version of yourself out there.

What’s next for you?

After this release, I’m focusing on a collaboration with Joy Kate. We met each other because we’ll both be attending NYU next year and decided to do a collab on a “No Time To Die” like track which should be finished soon. I also have a couple of other potential collabs with some other smaller-scale artists. Only up from here.
